So this past week we had a crazy storm come through Auburn. So, I'm going to take a short break from house stuff, God knows I need to!
The day that the storm came through was a crazy day. We had our Faculty Staff Fiesta at work, so everyone was running around like a chicken with their head cut off. From preparing to cleaning, we were all busy. We finally finished up the best we could and everyone went home. I have to admit walking out to the car that night was a bit eerie, just TOO quiet, ya know?
Josh was working and Jeremy was already asleep. So, of course I came home to a dark quiet home. There's nothing new to that! What was so different was that Bella wouldn't leave my side. Then I knew s**t was about to hit the fan. All of a sudden around 11pm the wind picked up from out of nowhere and we lost power.
Jeremy, my brother, came out from his hole, his room, as I was scrambling to find a candle. Then, there in the middle of the night with no power, Jeremy and I had the most purest conversation! We just really took the time to listen to each other and respond honestly. I mean what would we have been in a hurry for? The power surely wasn't coming back on soon.
Eventually, we both feel asleep in the living room on the most pitiful furniture I've seen (we are saving for the new house). I hear stories from family members all the time of Jeremy and me "hiding out" or doing things together, but I can never remember fully. I would assume that night would have been very close to what it was like. No wonder we used to get along so easily! It was nice for both of us to have grown up and have families, with grown-up responsibilities; however, still be able to connect so genuinely over a power outage.
So the next day, I didn't have to come in until late- THANK GOD! However, I wasn't there an hour and the power went out there for the WHOLE DAY!! I wish I could say that we got to go home, but Lady Luck wasn't in my life that much!
We were able to sit in the break room and get some work done, only because our office is like a bat cave without power, see below.
Very rarely do we have the time to sit and laugh and have true conversations with each other. In the past 6 months, this was by far the best that I have been able to "bond" with anyone at work, only due to the rush of our everyday schedule.
So the power outage brought to my attention, if it was this great for a day without power, what must it have been like when electricity was a luxury and not a necessity? Don't get me wrong, I love my power just as much as the next woman. However, for me this power outage was like an emotional vacation. VERY MUCH NEEDED!
