Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I never thought I would post something like this on the Internet for all to see, but after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that I'm blogging to tell our story and who wants a half written story?....
So, today at the age of 26, I gave my first "Birds and The Bees" Sex Talk. It is quite horrifying to think about actually. However, when you have a teenager in your house, certain topics arise and well, it's easier to handle if everyone is all on the same page to begin with. Destiny is turning 15 tomorrow. She has only been with us 4 1/2 months, but I have already seen such a difference in her appearance, attitude, academics, and her overall outlook on life. So with growing maturity and stealthy vultures, also known as young teenage boys, comes the dreadful, awkward, can't get around it..."sex talk".
If you aren't already judging me enough for blasting this for the world to see, let me make it easier.... I made a sex talk power point. I didn't want to miss anything important. Knowing me, without a power point, I would hit on everything but the actual act of "doing the dirty". So to keep my head straight in the sea of awkward "uhs..." and "uhms..." I had something to fall back on. Some topics that we covered were male/female anatomy (that got interesting!), stds, and birth control. There was more...much, much more!
Now because of Destiny's past she knew a lot that she shouldn't have but nothing about what she should have. So I'm glad we had the talk. I encourage all moms out there with teenagers to revisit that dreadful topic. I bet you their views on it have changed and they have tons of questions and some awkward stories. A bit of advice, read up on some slang terminology for genitalia. Some of them, I haven't even heard of. But like always, I just nodded my head, smiled, and googled it later. LOL
I would consider my nerdy talk about the birds and the bees a success. At least I hope so!
